The Staff at Pilgrims

The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey K. Krehbiel

Pastor

jeff.krehbiel@verizon.net

Jeff has been pastor of Church of the Pilgrims since August 2000. His passions include creative worship, community organizing, Bible studies at the Brickskeller, and visiting new parents in the hospital after the birth of a child.

A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Jeff attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago . In 2004 he earned a Doctor of Ministry in “Gospel and Culture” from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur , Georgia . The focus of his doctoral work was the “missional” calling of the church in contemporary North American culture: in our pluralistic, post-modern, and post-Christian era, the church is called to be a community of alternative values and practices that bears witness to the gospel in its common life.

Prior to Pilgrims, he served pastorates on the West Side of Manhattan in New York City, and in an inner-city neighborhood in Wilmington, Delaware.

Jeff is married with two children, Andrea, 20, and Kelsey, 17. His wife, Cheryl, is Director of Professional Development for the District of Columbia Public Schools.

Matt Boote, Program Manager

Matt is a 2007 graduate of Hope College, having received a degree in International Studies, Religion and Philosophy.

Matt was raised in Deerfield, Illinois where he was heavily exposed to volunteering and service-based learning by an extremely supportive family and church. These experiences instilled a sense of social responsibility that Matt didn’t begin to understand until college. Contact with new religious ideas and theologies in the classroom crystallized years of service providing him with a better framework for understanding the inequalities he faced while serving.

Matt discovered his personal connection between service-based learning and the positive impact these incidents had on daunting problems such as poverty or interreligious hostility. He understands the importance of the experiences that influenced his life and realized he wants to help create opportunities for others. Matt is excited to work with Pilgrimage groups as they tackle difficult issues, challenge themselves and others, and engage in new experiences.

Matt can be reached at pilgrimage.manager@verizon.net or at 202-387-6615.
