Come make soup for hungry neighbors. We’ll meet up to chop, mix, and simmer so we can freeze a whole bunch of soup for Open Table this fall. Every Sunday, we serve meals to hungry neighbors out of the back of the church at Open Table. Once every few months we meet up and make big batches of soup together to stock up for the season. Join us at church on Wednesday at 6pm.
Blessing of the Bags
This Sunday, Sept. 4th during worship we will give thanks for the labors of our community. Bring your backpacks, briefcases, purses, gym bags, diaper bags, tool boxes, and whatever else you use to carry your work, your tools, your books, and your efforts. We'll bless those bags and the people of all ages who carry them. We'll give you a little backpack tag to attach to your bag, so you can remember that blessing all year long. If you are worshiping with us virtually, we'll be glad to send you a bag tag in the mail.
It’s also the first Sunday of the month, so we’ll share in communion during worship and all kinds of tasty snacks during fellowship time after the service.
May all your labors and your rest be so very blessed.
Homecoming: Sept. 18th
Come on back! Join us online or in person for Homecoming at Pilgrims on Sunday, September 18th. Participate in the kick-off for the new season at church. In worship we’ll start a series on Exploring Home, each week reading and discussing stories about what it means to be home. On 9/18 we’ll look at Acts 2:42-47. We’ll also share in a potluck meal and fellowship after worship on the front lawn (bring a little something to share if you can…). And start discussing the Issues Among Us together. Oh, and the new DC YAVs will be sharing in worship with us. It’s going to be great! We hope to see you there!

Music that Makes Community - Workshop on July 16
There's just something special that happens when we sing together. On Saturday, July 16th, you're invited to a one-day workshop with Music that Makes Community.
We'll sing together, and dream of ways to use music and voices in worship. Since Pilgrims is hosting this event, the workshop leader, the super gifted composer, worship leader, and musician Paul Vasile, is inviting any Pilgrims who are interested to attend for free.
Read all about the workshop here, then email Pastor Erin at erin@churchofthepilgrims.org to RSVP.
Backpacks for Friendship Place
Okay, yes, school is *just now* letting out for this year, but we're already thinking about next year! We're partnering with our neighbors at Friendship Place to provide 10 backpacks for students for next fall. And, we're making it super easy for you to be a part of it!
Make a special backpack donation, online (choose Friendship Place as the fund) or in person at worship, and we'll go out and buy all the requested items. Then during worship one Sunday in July, we'll stuff those packs full of supplies and love for students. Help us start some kids off for success at school in the new year!
Summer Cook-Out with Open Table: July 3
Come for worship on Sunday, July 3rd and stay after for a meal. We’ll join with Open Table guests and volunteers for a holiday weekend cookout. Join us as we fire up the grill and bring lots of yummy sides. Contact the church office if you’d like to bring something to share! All are welcome, all are invited!
